Omega-3 fatty acids are a special group of polyunsaturated fatty acids commonly found in vegetable seed oils, nut oils and oily fish such as sardines and salmon. A large number of scientific studies worldwide have demonstrated the multiple benefits of omega-3 fatty acids in areas as diverse as the heart, brain, and normal vision. The two most researched omega-3 fatty acids, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docohexaenoic acid), contribute to the maintenance of normal visual function.
Omega-3 fatty acids play an important structural and functional role in the retina, the part of the eye that detects light. DHA is a component of photoreceptor cells responsible for converting light into nerve signals. Photoreceptors contain the highest concentration of DHA of any cell in the body, with DHA accounting for more than 50% of the total fatty acid content. Adequate levels of DHA must be maintained for the retina to continue functioning properly and to maintain normal visual function
Retinal cells are constantly being renewed, so a continuous supply of omega-3 fatty acids, especially DHA, is essential. Since these cells cannot be made by the body, a deficiency of these nutrients may have a direct effect on DHA levels in the retina. Fortunately, increasing the intake of food containing DHA can help restore omega-3 levels in the retina. Omega-3 fatty acids are now considered essential for a healthy, normal visual process from before birth through old age.
The macula is the central area of the retina, and contains the highest density of photoreceptors. Retinal cells in the macula are particularly vulnerable to the effects of ultraviolet radiation from sunlight which can lead to damage to the cells. For this reason, it is always recommended to use sunglasses with a sun protection factor (SPF) to limit eye exposure to excess light and harmful UV rays.
Vision Ice contains vitamins C and E, in addition to the minerals zinc and selenium, which contribute to protecting cells from oxidative stress.
Lutein belongs to a class of compounds called carotenoids and is the dominant pigment in the retina. Vision Ice Plus provides 12 mg of lutein esters
Only the purest grades of fish oil are used. To ensure maximum benefit, the oil is carefully concentrated to increase its DHA and EPA content and further purify it. Each batch is rigorously tested, certified, and fully compliant with the strict EU and WHO rules on environmental contaminants.
Vision Ice contains high quality natural lutein esters. Vision Ice also contains a comprehensive range of vitamins, minerals and nutrients, such as copper and selenium which support the normal functioning of the immune system, and thiamine (vitamin B1) which contributes to the normal function of the heart.
